Transparent Peer Review

This journal is participating in a pilot on Peer Review Transparency. By submitting to this journal, authors agree that the reviewer reports, their responses, and the editor’s decision letter will be linked from the published article to where they appear on Publons in the case that the article is accepted. Authors have the opportunity to opt out during submission, and reviewers may remain anonymous unless they would like to sign their report.

3. Requirements for Manuscripts

3.1 Format

Each figure, table, and bibliographic entry must have a reference in the text. Any corrections requested by the reviewer should be incorporated into the file.

Please only include only those files needed for the current manuscript. Please include a list of the files, noting the file name, the computer program and its version number. Please do not import the figures into the text file. The text should be prepared using standard software (Microsoft Word, Word Perfect) or saved in rtf format; do not use automated or manual hyphenation. Please do not include footnotes.

For further information please consult http://authorservices.wiley.com/bauthor/

3.2 Form

Manuscripts begin with the title of the article, and the name(s) and full address(es) of the author(s). An e-mail address for the corresponding author should also be supplied. The title should be informative but as concise as possible. The article begins with a summary, which should cover the most important aims, results, and conclusions of the investigation. The main text must be double-spaced throughout and should be structured as follows: Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, and References. However, some flexibility in the layout of the paper is acceptable if deemed appropriate by the editors. Short communications must not exceed 6 manuscript pages including tables and references. They will be given priority for publication.

3.3 Units, abbreviations and nomenclature

Standard SI units should be used. Concentrations of solutions should be given in mol or in percentages, followed by either w/v or v/v, thus indicating whether the value refers to weight-per-volume or a volume-per-volume proportion. All biological and chemical names, and other technical terms should be given according to the most recent international nomenclature. Authorities should be mentioned once only at the point where the name first appears in the text. It is not necessary to mention authorities in the title or summaries, unless the article is specifically taxonomic. Botanical or zoological names should be typed in italics or underlined.

3.4 Illustrations and tables

The number and size of figures and tables should be limited to an essential minimum. The illustration of a specific point using both tables and figures is not acceptable. For all figures, high-quality originals must be submitted (reproducible artwork). All figures must be marked with the author's name, short title, and figure number.

We would prefer to receive your artwork in electronic form. Please save vector graphics (e.g. line artwork) in Encapsulated Postscript Format (EPS), and bitmap files (e.g. half-tones) in Tagged Image File Format (TIFF). Detailed information on our digital illustration standards is available at http://authorservices.wiley.com/bauthor/illustration.asp.

There is a charge for alterations to figures when carried out by the publisher.

Please note that figures will generally be reduced to fit within the column-width or the print area. This means that numbering and lettering must still be readable when reduced (e.g. maps). In photomicrographs and microscopical drawings, magnification should be shown using a bar of the appropriate length, whose dimension is given in the caption. If a figure is to be cropped, please mark the lines on a photocopy or tracing paper. Printouts should be made with a laser-printer at the highest resolution (> 600 dpi). Colour photos can be reproduced in black and white (with a possible loss of contrast). Line drawings should only be contour drawings without halftones (shades of grey). Please do not use patterns; rough hatching is possible.

All figure captions should give a precise description of the content and should not be repeated within the figure. They should be typed on a separate sheet of paper. In the full-text online edition of the journal figure legends may be truncated in abbreviated links to the full screen version. Therefore the first 100 characters of any legend should inform the reader of key aspects of the figure.

All figures should be numbered on the reverse side. For composite figures involving a number of photographs do not attach the photographs to a sheet of paper, but send a photocopy indicating how the photographs should be displayed. The composition of the figure will be carried out electronically. Graphs with an x and y axis should not be enclosed in frames; only 2-dimensional representations, please. Do not forget the labels and units. Tables should be created using the table function.

Preparation of electronic artwork for publication

Although low quality images are adequate for review purposes, print publication requires high quality images to prevent the final product being blurred or fuzzy. Submit EPS (lineart) or TIFF (halftone/photographs) files only.

For scanned images, the scanning resolution (at final image size, see above for a guide to sizes) should be as follows to ensure adequate reproduction: lineart, >800 d.p.i.; half-tones (including gel photographs), >300 d.p.i. Figures containing both halftone and line images, >600 d.p.i.

EPS files should be saved with fonts embedded (and with a TIFF preview if possible)

Black and white images should be supplied as 'grayscale'

Colour images should be supplied as RGB

Multipart figures should be supplied in the final layout in one file.

To facilitate production of publication quality artwork, we recommend that authors generate their artwork in software packages incorporating a ‘SAVE AS’ or ‘EXPORT’ TIFF/EPS function, e.g.: Adobe Illustrator 7.0 and above (EPS), Adobe Illustrator 9.0 (EPS but can also export files as TIFF), Deneba Canvas 6.0 and above (EPS), CorelDRAW 7.0 and above (EPS), Adobe Photoshop 4.0 and above (TIFF). You can EXPORT low resolution figs (GIF/JPG) from these packages for review purposes. EPS files can be produced from other applications [e.g. PowerPoint (see Electronic Artwork Guidelines)] BUT results can be unpredictable (e.g. fonts and shading not converted correctly, lines missing, dotted lines becoming solid). All scanned images embedded into other applications should be scanned at the recommended resolutions (see above).

3.5 Colour

As Forest Pathology is now an online-only journal, online colour illustrations are free-of-charge.

3.6 References

List all sources in the reference list alphabetically by name. . In text citations should follow the author-date method. This means that the author's last name and the year of publication for the source should appear in the text, for example, (Jones, 1998), and a complete reference should appear in the reference list at the end of the paper.

References are styled according to the sixth edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. A sample of the most common entries in reference lists appears below. Please note that for journal articles, issue numbers are not included unless each issue in the volume begins with page one.

Phelps, L. (1996). Discriminative validity of the WRAML with ADHD and LD children. Psychology in the Schools, 33, 5-12.
