Thank you for your interest in Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture. All papers submitted to JSFA will also be considered for our sister journal, JSFA Reports.
Note that submission implies that the content has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere except as a brief abstract in the proceedings of a scientific meeting or symposium.
Once you have prepared your submission in accordance with the Guidelines, manuscripts should be submitted online here.

3. MANUSCRIPT CATEGORIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Front Matter
Front Matter is usually commissioned.
Please note that all manuscript types require an abstract.
Review: A summary and discussion of the relevant literature.
Mini-Review: A sharply focused, selectively referenced summary and assessment of the relevant literature. Particularly effective when discussing cutting-edge advancements in the discipline.
Perspective: A lightly referenced scholarly opinion piece, focusing on current or future directions in a field. A Perspective can serve to assess the science directly concerned with a particular topic or report on relevant issues that may arise from the discipline (for example, policy, effects on society, regulatory issues and controversies).
Spotlight: A brief, lightly referenced article about an outstanding area, newsworthy advance or other event. These articles should be written in a lively and accessible style; contain a one-sentence abstract; and include an eye-catching, captioned image.
Research
Please note that all research manuscript types require a compound abstract.
Research Paper
Short Communication: A shorter paper aiming to provide readers with useful and novel results or information that does not warrant publication as a full research paper. The manuscript should contain the same headings found in a Research Paper (see Preparing Your Submission)
4. PREPARING YOUR SUBMISSION
Cover Letters
The journal requires a cover letter be included in submissions.
A cover letter should explain: why this topic is important; why these results are significant; why you are submitting to this journal; and why this journal’s readers will read it.
It should also include any other information the editor needs to know, for example if the paper is for a Special Issue, or has been invited.
Parts of the Manuscript
The manuscript should be submitted in separate files: main text file; tables; figures.
Text File
The text file should be presented in the following order:
Title
A short running title of less than 80 characters
The full names of all authors
The authors’ institutional affiliations at which the work was carried out, (footnote for author’s present address if different to where the work was carried out)
Abstract and keywords
Main text
Acknowledgments
References
Figure Legends
Appendices
Figures and supporting information should be supplied as separate files.
Title
The title should be short, informative and contain the major key words. The title should not contain abbreviations (see Wiley's best practice SEO tips)
Authorship
Please refer to the journal’s authorship policy in the Editorial Policies and Ethical Considerations section for details on eligibility for author listing.
Acknowledgements
Contributions from anyone who does not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed, with permission from the contributor, in an Acknowledgments section. Financial and material support should also be mentioned. Thanks to anonymous reviewers are not appropriate.
Conflict of Interest Statement
You will be asked to provide a conflict of interest statement during the submission process. See the section ‘Conflict of Interest’ in the Editorial Policies and Ethical Considerations section for details on what to include in this section. Please ensure you liaise with all co-authors to confirm agreement with the final statement.
Abstract
For all manuscripts please provide an abstract of no more than 250 words, containing the major keywords. Abstracts for Research Papers and Short Communications must be divided into the following sections 'Background', 'Results' and 'Conclusion'

Please provide 4-6 keywords. These will improve the discoverability of your paper.
