Submission guidelines
Instructions for Authors
Types of Articles
Manuscripts must be of a high quality prior to submission.
Currently, over 50 percent of manuscripts are rejected without being sent to reviewers.
We strongly recommend that authors who do not have English as their first language have their manuscripts professionally edited, as manuscripts with incorrect grammar will not be accepted for review.
All manuscripts are automatically checked for plagiarism.
• Reviews: By prior arrangement with the Editor.
• Scientific Paper: Full length paper (up to 12 journal pages, no more than 10 figures) reporting the scientific investigation of a significant issue. Involves an appropriate literature review, full discussion of results, implications and shortcomings.
• Note: Shorter manuscript (up to 6 journal pages, no more than 6 figures) reporting the scientific investigation of a narrower issue. May precede (i.e., be a preliminary study) or follow a more extensive investigation.
• AI Notes: A shorter, prescriptive manuscript reporting AI research in physics, medical imaging and engineering related to medicine. AI Notes are required to use the template provided below and follow the prescribed format.

• Letter to the Editor: A short comment on a topical issue or a published article in the journal. If commenting on a published article in the journal the original authors will be invited to reply.
• Editorial Comment: By prior arrangement with the Editor.
Specific Remark
Abstracts of eligible recent PhD theses for recent graduates can be published by contacting the Editor. Eligible graduates are those who are ACPSEM members, or whose supervisors are ACPSEM members, or who have published all or part of their PhD in this journal.
Structure
All Scientific Papers and Notes must include the following separate sections:
• Abstract
• Introduction (Note: Introductions should not end with a summary of the structure of a paper as this is self-evident in the section headings)
• Methods
• Results
• Discussion
• Conclusion
• References
• Acknowledgements (as needed)
Manuscripts should have line numbering for easier review.
Editing of English expression
Authors for whom English is not their first language are very highly recommended to have their manuscript edited for English expression by somebody who has English as their first language and who has knowledge of the author’s field of research. Experience has shown that reviewers are harsh on manuscripts that are unclear or have grammatical errors and non-scientific wording. Manuscripts in which the English expression is unclear will either be returned to the authors for editing or will be rejected.

Manuscript Submission
Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.
Permissions
Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.
