Guide for Authors
Aims and scope
The use of computers is firmly established in geotechnical engineering and continues to grow rapidly in both engineering practice and academe. The development of advanced numerical techniques and constitutive modeling, in conjunction with rapid developments in computer hardware, enables problems to be tackled that were unthinkable even a few years ago. Computers and Geotechnics provides an up-to-date reference for engineers and researchers engaged in computer aided analysis and research in geotechnical engineering. The journal is intended for an expeditious dissemination of advanced computer applications across a broad range of geotechnical topics. Contributions on advances in numerical algorithms, computer implementation of new constitutive models and probabilistic methods are especially encouraged. Submissions that predominantly report results using proprietary codes, or describe computer modelling of laboratory tests, field monitoring, hydrocarbon extraction, case histories or design are only welcome if they demonstrate novel user-implemented computational methods. Mining engineering topics and "soft computing" applications are usually discouraged, since they align more closely with other journals. Since the journal is willing to accept longer papers if justified, authors are asked to avoid two-part submissions.
Submission checklist
You can use this list to carry out a final check of your submission before you send it to the journal for review. Please check the relevant section in this Guide for Authors for more details.
Ensure that the following items are present:
One author has been designated as the corresponding author with contact details:
• E-mail address
• Full postal address
All necessary files have been uploaded:
Manuscript:
• Include keywords
• All figures (include relevant captions)
• All tables (including titles, description, footnotes)
• Ensure all figures and tables are embedded right around the relevant texts for review
• Ensure all figure and table citations in the text match the files provided
• Indicate clearly if color should be used for any figures in print
Graphical Abstracts / Highlights files (where applicable)
Supplemental files (where applicable)
Further considerations
• Manuscript has been 'spell checked' and 'grammar checked'
• All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa
• Permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Internet)
• A competing interests statement is provided, even if the authors have no competing interests to declare
• Journal policies detailed in this guide have been reviewed
• Referee suggestions and contact details provided, based on journal requirements
For further information, visit our Support Center.
If you are submitting a Short Communication/Technical Note, it should be approximately 2500 words (not including references or reference notes).
Please note that, due to the large number of submissions to the journal, papers that have been previously rejected may not be resubmitted for possible publication. It is incumbent on authors to ensure that the technical and grammatical standard of the initial submission is very high to avoid disappointment.
