“ e.g.”、“i.e.”、“et al.”、“etc.”
今天就来分享一下，这些奇怪缩写的意思到底是什么！
e.g.
e.g.来源于拉丁文“exempli gratia”，中文意思是“例如”，它的全称是：“for example/instance”，和单词e、g的读法一致。
e.g.就是取其首字母并在其后加“.”。这种缩写方式常出现在SCI论文的参考文献部分中，通常会以这种方式对作者全名和期刊全称进行缩写。
注意事项！
e.g. 后面一般要加逗号
（英式英语可不加）
举例：
The website has a variety of interactive exercises (e.g. matching games, crosswords and quizzes).
——《Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary》
citrus fruits, e.g. oranges and grapefruit
——《Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English》
i.e.
i.e.，中文意思是“即，换言之，也就是说”，相当于英文中的“that is，in other words”，读音相同于单词i和e。它来源于拉丁文“id est”，i.e.是它的缩写。
注意事项！
i.e.后面一般也要加逗号
（英式英语可不加）

Some poems are mnemonics, i.e. they are designed to help you remember something.

The film is only open to adults, i.e. people over 18.

et al.
et al.来源于拉丁文“et alii/alia”，et al.是它的缩写。中文意思是“等人”，相当于英文中的“and others”。
注意事项！
⭐ et al.前面不加逗号，除非在期刊对引文格式有特别要求的时候。
举例：
They used an example given by Bahl et al.
——《Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary》
The exhibition will include works from Picasso, Pollock, Warhol, et al.
——《Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English》
etc.
etc.来源于拉丁文“et cetera”，etc.是它的缩写。中文意思是“等东西”。
注意事项！
⭐etc.前面一般要加逗号。
⭐etc.中的et相当于and，所以不要出现and etc.这样的用法。
⭐列举多种事物时，如果前面已有 i.e. / such as / for example / including等引导词，后面一般不加etc.。
⭐et al.和etc.都有“等”的意思，但et al.用于列举人名时的省略，而etc.用于列举事物时的省略。
举例：
We talked about the contract, pay, etc.

The data are used in statistics, medical research, direct mailing, etc.
