SOFTWARE TESTING VERIFICATION & RELIABILITY

Author Guidelines

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISION

Software Testing, Verification and Reliability (STVR) is an international journal, publishing 8 issues per year. It publishes papers on theoretical and practical issues of software testing, verification and reliability. The goal of the journal is to publish high-quality papers that help researchers, educators and practitioners understand cutting edge results.

Authors should kindly note that submission implies that the content has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere except as a brief abstract in the proceedings of a scientific meeting or symposium.

FROM FEBRUARY 25TH 2020: New submissions should be made via the Research Exchange submission portal. For technical help with the submission system, please review our FAQs or contact submissionhelp@wiley.com.

Data Protection

By submitting a manuscript to or reviewing for this publication, your name, email address, and affiliation, and other contact details the publication might require, will be used for the regular operations of the publication, including, when necessary, sharing with the publisher (Wiley) and partners for production and publication. The publication and the publisher recognize the importance of protecting the personal information collected from users in the operation of these services and have practices in place to ensure that steps are taken to maintain the security, integrity, and privacy of the personal data collected and processed. You can learn more at https://authorservices.wiley.com/statements/data-protection-policy.html.

Article Formats and Requirements

Research Papers: report original work, either theoretical or practical, which increases knowledge, understanding or practice in software testing, verification or reliability (limit of thirty pages, including figures and tables).

Survey Papers: detail all the current knowledge in a specific area (limit of forty pages, including figures and tables).

Experience from the Field Papers should report significant experience in applying software testing, verification, or reliability technology in an industrially relevant context and should carefully identify and discuss important lessons learned that benefit other researchers or practitioners to conduct technology transfer or adoption in practice. Negative results are specifically encouraged, e.g., discussing where or why current research cannot be applied in an industrially relevant context.

Software Notes should describe infrastructure (e.g., tools, environments, languages, libraries, frameworks, data) that supports researchers to pursue research in software testing, verification, or reliability or supports practitioners to impact software testing, verification, or reliability practices. Submissions describing infrastructure with demonstrated impact on other researchers or practitioners are especially welcome.  Note that this category does not include descriptions of commercial tools or other marketing attempts.

Extending a conference paper to be a full journal submission

A journal submission extended from a conference paper should include at least 30% significant new material. The new material is intended to be a technical contribution, rather than background, related work, or motivation for writing the paper. The editors and reviewers will judge if the new material is enough. Note that this does not allow several conference papers to be combined into one journal paperall results were previously published.

Citing the Conference Paper

The journal submission should follow the following rules:

The journal version must include a citation to the conference paper.

The journal version must discuss the conference paper and summarize the additional technical contributions. This discussion should normally be included in the introduction and does not necessarily need to be long.

Omitting this information is not grounds for rejection but will usually result in a major revision. Although adding this content is relatively minor, the reviewers need to recheck the paper to judge whether the paper contains enough new material.
