Submission Guidelines
The path to publication in Leonardo and Leonardo Music Journal follows the nine steps outlined on the Getting Published with Leonardo page. Now that you have chosen to submit materials for consideration for one of the journals, after reading the journals' aims and scope, your next steps include the following:
Preparing your materials
Making your submission
Understanding the review process
Moving through production
Publishing your article
You may access the steps in the path to publication for journals by selecting them from the list above or navigating through the Journals submenu. Either way, you will find essential information to assist you through each step. Please keep in mind that an author may have no more than two articles under consideration for a publication at any time.
Making Your Submission
You have selected the journal for your article, prepared your proposal or manuscript according to the Manuscript Guidelines and are now ready to submit your materials for consideration. If you are a returning author who is resubmitting your revised manuscript, you will follow the same process that you followed for your initial submission.
Before Posting Your Submission
To guarantee a smooth submission and review process, we encourage you to double-check that your materials conform to the guidelines outlined on the Preparing Your Materials page, including the file format requirements for your manuscript and figures. If you are resubmitting a revised manuscript and high-quality art files, revisit the Manuscript Guidelines to make sure you have addressed any formatting issues that were brought up during the initial review.
During the submission process, we ask that you suggest experts as possible reviewers of your manuscript and note in your submission if you would like a particular member of the Editorial Board to look at your manuscript. Reviewers should not be from the same institution as yours, your current collaborators or in other ways likely to benefit from the publication of your article. Have suggested reviewers and their contact information ready before you submit your materials. NOTE: Do not submit your manuscript directly to anyone that you are suggesting as a reviewer.
Where to Post Your Submission
We use Editorial Express (EE), an online submission and editorial tracking system, to manage manuscripts, reviews and author/reviewer communications throughout the submission, reviewing and resubmission process.
To post your proposal, manuscript and/or figures, go to editorialexpress.com/leonardo and follow the onscreen instructions.
You will receive an automatic confirmation from EE once your materials are posted. Throughout the submission and review process, you will also receive emails from your editor via EE. Email can be sent to the editor through EE as well; though not required, this will ensure an easily retrievable correspondence record.
NOTE: An exception to this process is a special Leonardo or LMJ project in which inquiries and proposals should be directed to a special project coordinator, as indicated in the special project's call for papers listed on the Opportunities Hub.
