Who are the readers of this journal?

This journal is aimed at physicians and all experts involved in taking care of people with diabetes. Medical professionals, including chemists and pharmacists, working scientifically, clinically, or out in the field will be presented with current and in-depth articles with the purpose of improving care for people with diabetes. Latest medical findings will be presented to promote high-level continuing education, enabling scientific debate and the exchange of practical experience.

Author Instructions for "Diabetes, Stoffwechsel und Herz"

The journal “DIABETES, STOFFWECHSEL und HERZ” (“Diabetes, Metabolism and the Heart”) publishes articles topics on diabetes, metabolism, endocrinology and cardiovascular disease as well as all diabetes-associated disorders. Our purpose is also to include inter-disciplinary articles that are of special interest to those in the health sector. In this journal, we publish the very latest in research and clinical practice, providing the reader with leading-edge medical knowledge.

Target Group:

This journal is aimed at physicians and all experts involved in taking care of people with diabetes. Medical professionals, including chemists and pharmacists, working scientifically, clinically, or out in the field will be presented with current and in-depth articles with the purpose of improving care for people with diabetes. Latest medical findings will be presented to promote high-level continuing education, enabling scientific debate and the exchange of practical experience.

Manuscripts:

Please send manuscripts per e-mail or CD-ROM to both the Editors-in-Chief and the editors at Kirchheim-Verlag (see below for addresses). The selection process is carried out by the Editors-in-Chief, along with subject specialists. Contributions will only be accepted that have not been previously published nationally or internationally. In addition, contributions may neither be offered simultaneously to other journals, nor already be in the process of publication. Please confirm within the submission system that all authors comply to these requirements and agree with the form and contents of the manuscript.

Manuscripts should be submitted in German. However, submissions in English will also be accepted and published in English. All articles in German must include summaries in both German and English. A summary in German will be added to all articles submitted in English.

Dates of Publishing:

DIABETES, STOFFWECHSEL UND HERZ” appears bi-monthly, in the months February, April, June, August, October, and December.

Volume:

Original and Review Articles should not exceed 25,000 characters (including blanks), not counting references. Up to 60 references can be added.

Include tables and/or illustrations to support or clarify the contents. Each table/illustration must include an explanatory caption. These are to be inserted at the end of the text. Please send tables/illustrations on a separate file and insert the names of each table/illustration in its appropriate place within the text.

Case Studies should not exceed 8,500 characters (including blanks). Explanatory photos (approximately three) and a table or illustration should accompany the text.

Commentaries should limit themselves to one page, thus be no more than 15,000 characters (including blanks). The authors are required to provide a portrait.

Please add a portrait of the first author, which will be published together with the article.

Structure of Original Articles:

Components of original articles should include:

Title: The title must clearly convey the content. A suggested title with no more than 30 characters should be formulated.

Surname and given names of the authors, along with the names and places of the institutes in which the studies were performed.

Summary: The summary should contain a title, introduction, method, results, and conclusion. It should not exceed 1500 characters.

Key Words: Three to five key words should be provided.

Introduction: The introduction should state the background and objective of the study.

Method: This section should contain exact details of the study and control populations as well as the equipment used. Each method, device (with trade name in brackets) and procedure should be documented in such a way so as to enable a reproduction of the results. For additional clinical/chemical methods, a reference suffices. This also applies to statistical procedures. Medications should be referred to by their generic names, with trade names in brackets. Dosages and methods of implementation should be documented.

Results: This section should be set out according to the objective of the study. It can take the form of a text or, in part, a table or illustration. Tautologies are to be avoided.

Discussion: This serves to highlight the most important point without repeating the results. It presents the impact and limitations of the findings, and refers to observations made in other relevant studies.

Conclusion: derives from the results and relates to the objective. Recommendations can also be presented here.

Acknowledgements: Those of crucial assistance to the study can be acknowledged.

References: should be limited to the most important works and should not exceed 60 entries, placed in alphabetical order of the first authors, cited in the text as [first author year of publication]. References should be set out as follows: Citations: Journals: author(s) (surname, initials of given name without period): title of article. name of journal (abbreviated according to the World Medical Periodicals), year (no comma); volume: first to last page of article Example: Standl E, Schnell O: A new look at the heart in diabetes mellitus: from ailing to failing. Contact: This is located at the end of the article and serves to provide the reader with a contact. Affiliation, given name, surname, institute, street and house number, postcode and city, fax, and e-mail should be provided. Telephone numbers are optional.

Abbreviations:

Abbreviations should be explained, regardless of whether they appear in the text or in tables.

Subtitles:

Please insert subtitles within the text so that each section can be easily recognized by the reader. The subtitle should succinctly convey the contents of the relevant section.

Illustrations:

Photos and graphs should be submitted electronically as .tif, .jpg, or pdf files. They should be at least 12 cm wide with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. The files should be submitted, along with the text, to both the Editors-in-Chief and the editors at the publisher. Any illustrative material taken from other sources must be accompanied by a statement of permission from the author and publisher of the original.

Editorial Process:

Approved manuscripts will be edited for journalistic purposes. This can also apply to graphs. Final versions will be viewed and approved of by the corresponding author prior to publication.
