Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived Extracellular Vesicles Based Targeted Therapy for Bovine Endometritis

More than 50% of early pregnancy losses happening may be due to various complications with endometrial conditions, pathologies, receptivity, embryo development and foetal development related complications. From endometrial pathological perspectives, both clinical and sub-clinical endometritis have become as key disease impacting cow fertility. A growing method in recent years has been the use of veterinary regenerative medicine approach using adult stem cells and extracellular vesicles (EV) as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool for many animal diseases. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have been selected as a key regenerative approach since almost all postnatal tissues, irrespective of the regenerative capacity. Bovine (Bos taurus) MSC-EVs are nano-scale entities carrying various cargoes and are believed to be involved in intercellular communications. Particularly related to the endometritis, different types of isolated EVs have demonstrated potential applications in the modulation of the immune responses in different animal models and in in vitro works. Thus, in this doctoral research work we would expect to explore the use of bovine bone marrow derived MSC-EVs as a therapeutic/prophylactic intervention for endometritis and to improve cow fertility using both advanced in vitro and in vivo research models.

Study period: Four years full time basis (1.00)

Qualification of the candidate:

· Competition is open for both local and international students who fulfil the basic doctoral school admission requirements stipulated by the Estonian University of Life Sciences, Estonia. · Possession of the first degree plus masters degree level qualification in human medicine, veterinary medicine, agriculture, animal science or biological sciences streams.

· Experience in cell cultures and basic cell & molecular biology techniques.

· Experience in working with extracellular vesicles (not essential but preferable)

· Experience in transcriptomics and proteomics work with basic bioinformatics knowledge (not essential but preferable)

· Experience in publishing research outcomes in conferences and reputed scientific journals (not essential but preferable)

· Fluency in writing and speaking in English
